Hello lovelies,
If you’re new here. Welcome. Subscribe for my heart-led writing which includes seasonal living practices like all the goodness below.
Today (20/3) marks the Autumn Equinox or Ngahuru (Maori word for tenth month - this is the tenth month in the Maori year). For those with old Celtic ancestry it’s Mabon. The nights will start to draw in with darker mornings and evenings and it’s definitely feeling colder. We’ve had a couple of icy blasts up from the South leaving snow on the tops of the mountains. I fear for the tomatoes but there is not much I can do (apart from plant out winter greens!).
This is the time to remind yourself of how you find bliss, connection and nourishment. Relish the shadow side, draw inward and take the time to listen. Mabon is all about balance, balance of night and day, light and dark, rest and work etc. It is also a time after harvest when we are plentiful and can share our bounty with others.
Over the past few years I have intentionally created connected in each season as a way of honouring and being present. I created Seasonal Workbooks for my clients for the two Solstices and Equinoxes. I have just updated the Autumn Equinox workbook/reflections. It has a couple of questions around how to integrate this into your business but if you don’t have one it is good for all.
You can download it here and get stuck in:
A few things I might do with the family or by myself to be connected and present right now that might give you some inspiration:
A Fall leaf garland
Pull out rugs and blankets - start to cozy-up your spaces. Redecorate with autumnal colours and accents.
If you have children make a list now of the special adventures you can do and inside activities. Stick it somewhere to remind you.
Make a list of all the inward blissful self-care rituals you can integrate into the everyday. What needs to be modified to be in alignment with the season. It's a time for gentleness.
Get the wellies and jackets ready and put them in an easy to access area. [Here in Queenstown it’s more like snow boots, full down jackets and ski gear checks!]
A food donation or share your garden harvest
Clothing swap over from Summer to Autumn
Refresh your alter or start a new one
Autumn card reading
Balancing and grounding Yoga
Balancing meditations
Spend time outside breathing in the changing scents and changing colours of the leaves.
Build an outdoor fire and sit under the stars all covered in blankets.
Harvest and preserve foodstuffs for the winter. I am doing a lot of Apple preserving right now.
Walk out amongst it
Go foraging.
Start a knitting or craft project.
Meal plan all the delicious and nourishing foods you love at this time of the year.
I love to work with my intuition on how I am feeling each day. Do I need a home day or do I have energy to get outside? Do I need a walk or just a light workout? What does my body need today? What are my business/client priorities for right now but how can I remain connected and in slow / seasonal living mode without getting into overwhelm or anxiety about it all?
I also love to build this into the energetic changes each of my client might be feeling in her life/business and into the coaching we do each week. Because each week is different. Life changes, the seasons change, our mindset is up and down so it is important to remember it’s not linear but cyclical and to work with that rather than against it.
Download the workbook and let me know in the comments what, if anything, came to you - your ahas. Or just what you love about Autumn where you live. If you have your own business how will the energy of Autumn change how you show up in your marketing, creativity or everyday management?
Have a wonderful Autumn.
xOlivia
So nice to see a kindred spirit honouring the seasons of Aoteatoa. I love all the practical tips you give. (I'm commenting here as I don't see a comments button on your current post)
